The National Famine Way is a unique 165km trail that commemorates the Great Famine of the 1840s, a pivotal moment in Irish history. It marks the journey of 1,490 people who were forced to leave their homes in County Mayo and walk to Dublin in search of work and a better life.

You begin at the National Famine Museum in Strokestown and conclude in Dublin. By walking the National Famine Way, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for Irish history, culture, and landscape. At the end, a completion certificate awaits you at the EPIC museum in Dublin.

The National Famine Way can be completed in 6 days or longer. It is rated STRENUOUS due to the long distances each day and is appropriate for walkers with good fitness, comfortable walking 20-32km (12-20mi) per day with total ascents up to 457m (1,500ft).
