Explore the Wild West

Enchanting wide-open wilderness with rugged coastline and inland pilgrimage paths

The untamed beauty of Connemara and the Burren unfolds through sweeping moors, mist-shrouded mountains, and tranquil lakes that mirror the ever-changing Irish sky. This ancient land, steeped in Gaelic tradition, offers some of the most beautiful landscapes in Ireland. National trails such as the Western and Burren Way are here, as are the famous Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, and Connemara and Burren National Parks.

At this time, we only offer customized tours for the Connemara and Burren regions. Due to logistical issues caused by limited options for accommodations, suitable dining and poor trail conditions, we are not offering itineraries for the full Western or Burren Ways but we are happy to design a tour that highlights the best of these regions.

Landscape

Connemara and the Burren are renowned for their breathtaking landscapes, characterized by rugged mountains, serene lakes, rolling hills, limestone rock formations, and dramatic coastlines. The diverse terrain offers a paradise for hikers and photographers, with iconic landmarks such as the Twelve Bens mountain range, Cliffs of Moher, and the moon-like rocks of Burren National Park.

Gaelic Culture

The western coast of Ireland holds a deep connection to Ireland’s Gaelic heritage, making it a cultural treasure trove. The village of Doolin and Galway city offer opportunities to immerse yourself in traditional music, dance and language. The region’s rich history is palpable in its ancient stone walls, preserved thatched cottages, and enduring folklore that reflects the enduring spirit of the Irish people.

Ponies & Monasteries

Besides the beautifully situated Benedictine monastery of Kylemore Abbey, Connemara is home to the iconic Connemara pony, a beloved breed known for its hardiness, intelligence, and gentle nature. These ponies have become synonymous with the landscape and heritage of the region. While hiking, you may very well see these ponies grazing freely in the wild.
